Supporting Families, Empowering Change

Hi, I’m Mary Elisabeth, founder of Hannah Educational Advocacy & Consultation. With over 20 years of experience in special education and behavior analysis, I’m passionate about empowering parents of children with disabilities to confidently navigate the public school system and achieve their child’s educational goals.

As a neurodivergent advocate and proud introvert, I deeply understand the challenges of advocating for yourself and others in environments that may not always feel welcoming or accommodating. Though I’m not a parent myself, I’ve been closely involved in the lives of children with diverse needs since birth, which fuels my dedication to helping families succeed.

Your Partner in Special Education

Through one-on-one consultations, courses, and memberships, I work with parents to transform feelings of overwhelm into clarity, advocacy, and results. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in the belief that every child deserves an education that meets their unique needs.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family, including my delightful "silent partner" and nephew, who brings joy and inspiration to my daily routine..

FAQS

What is an educational advocate, and how can you help my child?

An educational advocate works alongside families to ensure their child’s unique educational needs are met. We empower you by:

Helping you understand your child’s rights under special education laws like IDEA and Section 504.

Guiding you through the often complex special education process, from evaluations and IEP meetings to ensuring accountability for services and supports.

Using our background and experience in special education to provide insights that help you interpret evaluations, present solutions for your child’s unique needs, and inspire the team to think creatively and collaboratively outside the box.

Facilitating clear and effective communication with the school to advocate for the programs, accommodations, and interventions your child needs to thrive.

While educational advocates are not lawyers, we play a vital role in helping families resolve concerns at the school level. If your case requires legal action, we can collaborate with your attorney to provide crucial documentation, insights, and support to strengthen your case. However, we do not provide legal representation or act as an attorney in hearings or disputes.

Our goal as an educational advocate is to help you feel confident, informed, and empowered, ensuring your child receives the education they deserve. Together, we can create a path toward success for your child, both academically and beyond.

What services do you offer?

We offer a range of personalized services to support parents navigating the special education process, including:

1:1 Consultations: Tailored guidance to help you understand your child’s unique needs, communicate effectively with the school, and advocate confidently for the services and supports they deserve.

Courses: Our flagship IEP Success Framework course empowers parents with the same step-by-step strategies I use during the first six months of advocacy services. As we grow, we’ll continue expanding our course offerings to address the evolving needs of our community.

Each Child Matters Membership: A supportive community of like-minded parents paired with ongoing resources, tools, and strategies. Membership helps you develop essential advocacy skills and provides ongoing support to apply them effectively to your unique circumstances.

No matter where you are in your journey, our services are designed to empower you with the knowledge, tools, and confidence you need to make a meaningful difference in your child’s education.

I have a meeting in a few days. Can you help me?

We understand how stressful it can be when an important meeting is just around the corner. While we frequently receive last-minute requests, we require at least two weeks to review your child’s documents thoroughly before attending a meeting.

This preparation time is essential to ensure we can provide effective support. Attending a meeting without fully understanding your child’s needs and educational history could unintentionally hinder team collaboration and impact the willingness of the school to consider additional supports. Our goal is to advocate from a place of knowledge and confidence, setting the stage for productive discussions.

If your meeting is imminent, you have the right to request that the school reschedule it for a mutually agreed-upon time and place. This can allow us to join you and provide the support you need.

If you’re unsure of your next steps, schedule your complimentary call. We can help you create a quick plan of action so you feel prepared to advocate for your child, even if we can’t attend the meeting on short notice

How do I know if your services are right for me?

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the special education process, struggling to get the school to address your child’s needs, or wanting to build confidence as an advocate for your child, my services are designed to help.

The best way to determine if we’re a good fit is by scheduling a complimentary consultation. This meeting allows us to connect, discuss your specific concerns, and explore how I can support you.

I strongly believe that the relationship between a parent and their advocate is built on trust. It’s essential that you feel comfortable speaking openly and honestly about your circumstances, and this initial consultation is the first step in creating that foundation.

What types of disabilities do you specialize in?

I support parents of children aged 3–22 with a wide range of disabilities, including Autism, ADHD, Emotional Disturbance, specific learning disabilities, intellectual impairments, and rare medical or neurological conditions.

In addition, I have extensive experience working with children who have complex profiles, including those with co-occurring diagnoses and significant behavioral or emotional challenges.

My approach is tailored to each child’s unique needs, ensuring comprehensive and compassionate support for your family.

How do your package plans work?

Rather than billing by the hour, we offer comprehensive packages designed to provide consistent and reliable support. This structure allows us to focus on addressing your child’s unique needs without the stress of tracking hourly rates. Each package includes ongoing communication, scheduled consultations, and all the support necessary to achieve meaningful progress during our time together.

New clients start with the New Client 6-Month Plan, which gives us the time and structure to thoroughly understand your case and work extensively with the school to get things back on track. This plan ensures a solid foundation for addressing your child’s educational needs.

After completing the initial plan, clients can "choose their own adventure," selecting from a variety of support levels tailored to their needs—whether it’s year-long assistance or focused support for specific meetings.

Everyone’s circumstances are unique, so if the New Client Plan isn’t the right fit, we’ll discuss alternative options during your complimentary consultation to ensure you get the support that works best for your situation.

Why don’t you offer hourly billing?

Advocating for your child’s education is a journey, not a one-time task. Hourly billing can limit the depth and continuity of support while creating unpredictable monthly expenses that may make it challenging for families to budget for or afford an educational advocate.

With my package plans, you benefit from a consistent, flexible approach that allows us to focus on long-term strategies and address your child’s unique needs at every critical stage. These plans also offer the opportunity to choose a level of support that aligns with your family’s goals and budget, ensuring you have the resources necessary for meaningful progress.

That said, I understand that every family’s circumstances are different. In some cases, exceptions for hourly billing may be made, and we can explore this option during your complimentary consultation to determine what works best for your situation.

Can I join the membership program without a 1:1 consultation package?

Absolutely! The membership program is open to all parents seeking ongoing support, valuable resources, and a community of like-minded advocates.

This program is especially beneficial for parents who may not have the budget for a dedicated educational advocate but still want expert guidance. Every month, we offer at least two opportunities to get your questions answered by an experienced advocate.

In addition to expert support, the membership connects you with a community of parents who share similar experiences and challenges. Together, you can exchange collective wisdom and gain insights from experts in the field who are committed to supporting you on your journey.

Please note that this is not an open membership. We periodically open enrollment to welcome a new cohort of members. This approach ensures that everyone starts together, receives proper orientation, and feels connected and supported from the very beginning.

Do you attend IEP meetings with parents?

Yes, I attend IEP or TEAM meetings as part of my 1:1 consultation packages. My role is to ensure your voice is heard, clarify your child’s needs, and facilitate productive collaboration with the school team to support your child’s success.

For clients within 50–60 miles of Hannah Educational Advocacy & Consultation, I am available to attend meetings in person, with travel time billed separately.

For clients outside this area or those who prefer it, I also offer online meeting attendance, ensuring that all families have access to the support they need regardless of location.
